Automotive Parts

The vehicle that you are driving today will be a source of numerous recyclable materials tomorrow. Vehicle parts offer recycling opportunities for materials such as steel, aluminum, plastics, antifreeze, and batteries, as well as whole parts such as tires, seats, engines, and alternators.

Just the Facts

* Each year, nearly all of the 27 million cars around the world that reach the end of their useful life are recovered for recycling.
* Automotive recyclers now can recover nearly 80 percent of the total materials by weight from a vehicle, according to the United States Council on Automotive Research (USCAR) Exit EPA Disclaimer, an organization of auto manufacturers that work together on shared technological and environmental concerns.
* The remaining 20 percent of vehicle materials that cannot be recycled is called auto shredder residue (ASR). ASR includes plastics, rubber, wood, paper, fabric, glass, sand, dirt, and ferrous and nonferrous metal pieces.
* Five million tons of ASR are disposed of in landfills each year.
* Consumers purchasing used or reconditioned parts save 50 percent or more compared to the cost of purchasing new parts.
* More than 25 million tons of materials are recycled from vehicles each year. Automotive recycling is generally calculated separately from the MSW recycling rate.
* Nearly 90 percent of automotive aluminum is recovered and recycled. Although this aluminum represents less than 10 percent of the average motor vehicle by weight, it accounts for roughly half of the vehicle's value as scrap.
* Auto recyclers supply more than one-third of all ferrous scrap (iron and steel) to the U.S. scrap processing industry. When manufacturers use scrap iron and steel instead of virgin ore, they reduce air and water pollution by more than half during the manufacturing process.

I'm busy...tired.. and darn hungry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is this all about??

Jaguar XF by Loder1899

Loder1899 has made its name (fine) tuning Ford Group vehicles, and even though Jaguar is now under Tata control Max and Julia Loder are still happy to oblige Jaguar fans with their tuning kits. This time the German tuning house took receipt of the new sedan and worked their magic.

Loder1899 started with a body kit consisting of a new front spoiler, boot spoiler and rear diffuser accentuating the sporty character of the Jaguar XF. Loder1899 also lowered the XF by 35 mm giving it both a faster appeal as well as a lower center of gravity. The look is finished with 20 or 21 inch wheels, pictured are 21 inch silver 'Hollow Spoke' wheels.

But the tuning does not stop with just aesthetics, Loder1899 also bumps up power output thanks to a new motor management system. The 2.7 liter TDV6 engine now produced 249 hp instead of the factory spec 207 hp, torque is increased to maximum 522 Nm at 3,850 rpm from 435 Nm at 4,000 rpm.

The whole kit costs about Euro 8,000 in Germany excluding taxes, assembly and painting.

Ford Mustang 2008

Ford Mustang charges into 2008 as the one and only pony car on the streets, and looks to stretch its segment leadership with new features for that personalized look and feel that Mustang enthusiasts love.

Mustang remains one of the greatest automotive sales success stories of all time. Nearly one out of every two sports cars sold in America is a Mustang, and Mustang remains one of the hottest-selling cars in America. It’s also America’s best-selling convertible.

The 2008 Mustang intends to hold on to that sales leadership with new available features that will add personal appeal, including High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps, 18-inch wheels on the V-6 coupe, and an interior ambient lighting system.

Three new colors enhance Mustang’s bold, American style while safety improves with the addition of standard side air bags.

Two new Shelby Mustangs are available for 2008 – the 2008 Mustang Shelby GT and Shelby GT500KR. The 2008 Mustang Shelby GT offers consumers a new Vista Blue exterior color with silver stripe, and the choice of two body styles, coupe or convertible. Under the hood, the Shelby GT’s 4.6-liter V-8 engine is modified with Ford Racing Performance Parts and generates 319 horsepower. Coil springs drop the overall ride height by an inch-and-a-half and stiffer dampers and a front swaybar further enhance cornering feel and body control.

To mark the 40th Anniversary of the original “King of the Road” Mustang, 2008 sees the return of the Shelby GT500KR. Hailed as the most powerful production Ford Mustang ever produced, the 2008 Shelby GT500KR features an estimated 540-horsepower 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 with a Ford Racing Power Upgrade Pack, 3.73:1 rear axle ratio, short-throw shifter, and unique suspension tuning. Available in spring 2008, the exterior design draws inspiration from the classic Shelby KR Mustangs and features unique carbon composite hood, Shelby-designed 18-inch wheels, and special 40th Anniversary badging and unique striping.

Also new for 2008 is a limited-edition Warriors in Pink Mustang – designed exclusively in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. Produced in celebration of Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s 25th Anniversary, the vehicle features unique pink exterior and interior design accents. Sales from the Warriors in Pink edition will help raise funds for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Highlights include:

  • Pink ribbon and Pony fender badge.
  • Pink ‘Mustang’ rocker tape stripe.
  • Charcoal leather seats and Charcoal floor mats with Pink contrast stitching.
  • Leather-wrapped aluminum spoke steering wheel with Pink contrast stitching.
  • Unique Pony grille with chrome bezel and fog lamps.
Mustang comes in both coupe and convertible body styles, V-6 Deluxe, V-6 Premium, GT Deluxe and GT Premium. All Mustangs are built in Flat Rock, Mich., with final assembly of the Shelby GT and GT500KR taking place at the Shelby Automobiles facility in Las Vegas.

Design and Equipment
Mustang epitomizes pure American muscle. The signature long hood and short rear deck capitalize on more than 40 years of Mustang heritage, as do classic design cues that have defined Mustangs since the 1960s: C-scoops in the sides, three-element taillamps, and a galloping horse badge in the center of the grille.

The Mustang’s menacing shark-like nose imparts an attitude not seen since the 1967 model, while jeweled, round headlamps in trapezoidal housings are part of its modern architecture. The car’s aggressive rake gives the design visual motion, while the short overhangs and up to 18-inch wheels and tires anchor the design visually and physically to the road.

Mustang continues to offer unique packages for 2008.

The Pony Package, available on the V-6 model, first launched in 2006. It features a GT-handling package that includes a larger front stabilizer bar, the addition of a rear stabilizer bar and

P235/55ZR17 tires on painted cast-aluminum wheels. Also included are bright, machined rims and unique tri-bar Pony center caps. Further touches include fog lights, Pony front fender badges, lower door tape stripe, carpeted front floor mats with special brushed chrome “Mustang” logos and a rear spoiler.

The Mustang GT California Special is available on GT Premium models and includes 18-inch wheels, side scoops, unique tape stripes, rolled bright exhaust tips, black leather trimmed seats with unique “Cal Special” contrasting Dove or Parchment leather inserts, a larger air intake, a chin spoiler (1.5 inches lower than GT), and unique front and rear fascias.

An appearance package is available for the Mustang GT featuring rolled exhaust tips, an engine cover with a Pony emblem and a hood scoop.

The California Special and GT appearance packages can be ordered separately or combined to give Mustang enthusiasts one of the most expressive Mustang GTs ever offered.

Customizable interior to fit any mood
Inside, Mustang’s industry-first MyColor™ color-configurable instrument panel offers the ultimate in personalization. Mustang owners can mix and match lighting at the touch of a button to create more than 125 color backgrounds to suit their personalities, moods, outfits or whims.

For 2008, Ford also lets Mustang owners color outside the lines with an available interior ambient lighting package. This unique feature offers the option of illuminating the front and rear footwells and front cupholders with any one of seven colors. The driver or front passenger can choose from red, orange, blue, indigo, violet, green and yellow.

Additional modern interior touches mix with Mustang history and heritage. Chrome-ringed air vents are aligned vertically across the dash, precisely in line with the gauges, and the steering wheel has three spokes with a center hub marked by the horse and tricolor bars logo, echoing the design of the 1967 Mustang.

Numerous standard features include an auxiliary audio input jack, one-touch up-down power windows, power mirrors, keyless entry and power locks, a heated rear window, interval wipers, air conditioning, speed control and a CD player. Available interior options include SIRIUS® Satellite Radio, heated front seats, voice-activated navigation and a Shaker 1000 premium audio system.

Power and Performance
Muscular engines infuse Mustang with tire-smoking performance. The 4.6-liter aluminum V-8 has three valve heads and cranks out 300 horsepower. That’s more than 50 percent more power than the small-block, 289-cubic-inch V-8 found in the classic 1964.5 model.

The standard engine – a 60-degree, 4.0-liter, single-overhead-cam V-6 – produces 210 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque.

Both engines are paired with a standard 5-speed manual transmission or an available 5-speed automatic, which provides a unique combination of off-the-line jump and good highway fuel economy.

At the front suspension, MacPherson struts with reverse “L” lower control arms deliver comfort. The three-link rear suspension has a lightweight, tubular Panhard rod that provides precise control of the rear axle. This technology stabilizes the rear axle as the wheels move, particularly during hard cornering.

The standard four-wheel disc brakes have the biggest rotors and stiffest calipers ever fitted to a mainstream Mustang. Twin-piston aluminum calipers clamp down on 12.4-inch ventilated front brake discs on GT models. In the rear, the brake rotors are 11.8 inches in diameter.

A four-channel anti-lock brake system (ABS) with traction control is standard on GT models and available on V-6 models. It uses electronic sensors to constantly monitor road conditions and feed the information to a dedicated control computer that’s capable of determining within milliseconds whether the vehicle is on dry pavement or negotiating a slippery surface. When traction control isn’t desired, drivers can deactivate the system with a button on the instrument panel.

Safety and Security
The 2008 Mustang adds standard side air bags to an already comprehensive safety package. Along with the addition of seat-mounted thorax side air bags, safety features also include dual-stage driver and front passenger air bags, safety belt pretensioners, seat weight sensing system for the passenger seat and crash severity sensing.

An optional active anti-theft package offers customers an added level of security. It includes a sensing module to guard against tow-away thefts, an interior motion sensor to detect smash-and-grab break-ins, a separate alarm sounder — in addition to the vehicle horn — to thwart thieves trying to disable the horn, and a high-capacity, 60-ampere-hour battery that sounds the alarm longer.

Volvo Combines Test Driving with Speed Dating in Australia

Now here’s something we haven’t heard of before; Volvo Australia joined forces with dating specialist Fast Impressions to offer the opportunity to twenty single Aussies from Sydney to participate in Australia's first 'test drive dating' event.

The participants were chauffeured driven in Volvos to a dealership and given eight minutes in the front seats of Volvo's range of models to meet their perfect match. After the speed dating event, the guests were taken to a bar in Sydney to party at an exclusive Fast Impressions event with hundreds of other singles.

"To the best of our knowledge this is a world-first. It gives us an opportunity to create a buzz around the brand by promoting our cars in an unconventional way," said Matt Braid, marketing director, Volvo Car Australia.

Nissan’s Wall Sculpture Hints at Next Generation 350Z Coupe

Nissan’s The fuzzy looking sculpture you see in the above picture was hung on a wall of a meeting room in Portugal where Nissan organized its annual product review. According to Edmund’s Senior Editor John O’Dell who took the picture, Nissan’s Design Chief Shiro Nakamura told journalists that the sculpture represents “a new Nissan that people would be seeing more of in the fall” – aka the next generation Z Coupe which will go on sale next year.

And if that wasn’t enough to stir a commotion, Nakamura decided to treat the journalists with a dark red design study that he said “contained elements of future design treatments for Nissan's upscale Infiniti division”. Even if these two pictures create more questions that the ones they answer, you have to admit that they do spark our imagination.

Credit Card Interest Payments

Minimize Your Credit Card Interest Payments - Things to do Now!! Sometimes you don't realize how much interest you are paying on your credit cards until you look at your end of the year statement or begin to follow your statements closely and see that your balance is not decreasing much. One of the most common causes of escalating interest payments is that of only making minimum payments, especially if you have a high credit line and frequently use your card. It may not seem like much of a problem until you want to use the card and discover you don't have very much available credit to make purchases or take cash advances.

One of the easiest ways to minimize interest payments on your credit cards is to pay them off during your grace period, but that is not always practical, especially if you have a high credit line and use your card to make larger purchases such as furniture and airline tickets. If you frequently make these types of purchases, you must get into the habit of making substantial payments on your credit cards each month. Making only the minimum payments will not only add to the amount of interest you pay, you will soon find that you have no credit to make additional purchases.

Another way you can minimize interest on your credit cards is to choose the cards with the lowest interest rates and look for those that offer low or no interest for a trial period. Prior to the expiration of the introductory interest rate you secure another card with a low introductory rate that includes balance transfers. With so many different offers today it makes little sense to remain loyal to a credit card issuer. A few decades ago customers tended to be true to their credit card issuer, but there is too much competition today and credit card issuers are less likely to give their customers a special price just to maintain their business.

Even if you are unable to pay your credit card balance in full each month, making larger payments and paying on time will minimize the interest you pay. This is especially important today since many credit cards have a special interest rate that is only effective if you pay your bill on time every month and don't go over your credit limit. If you do either of those things your interest rate may increase as much as twenty per cent, and depending on the credit card issuer, it may remain at that rate for a substantial amount of time. Make sure you know the regulations concerning the interest rate on your credit card so that you can avoid any pitfalls.

Michael writes for Card Sense, where you can compare credit cards from all the major issuers, including low rate cards, ones with introductory 0% on purchases deals, and balance transfer offers. Visit today to get a geat deal on your next credit card.

What is Ethanol?

Ethanol (CH3CH2OH; also known as ethyl alcohol, grain alcohol, and EtOH) is a clear, colorless liquid. Its molecules contain a hydroxyl group (-OH) bonded to a carbon atom.

The chemical compound in ethanol is the same whether the fuel is made from corn grain starch (as it primarily is in the United States) or sugar cane (as it primarily is in Brazil) or from cellulosic materials. Corn and sugar cane are commonly used to make ethanol today.

Ethanol can also be produced from fibrous cellulosic biomass materials, such as grass, vineyard grapes, wood, crop residues, or old newspapers. Breaking these materials down to their component sugars for subsequent fermentation to ethanol is a major focus of U.S. Department of Energy research. Whether made from starch in corn grain or cellulose in corn stalks, ethanol is a renewable, domestic biofuel.

Ethanol works well in internal combustion engines. In fact, Henry Ford and other early automakers thought ethanol would be the world's primary fuel before gasoline became so readily available. A gallon of ethanol contains one-third less energy than a gallon of gasoline.

Ethanol is a high-octane fuel. Octane helps prevent engine knocking and is extremely important in engines designed to operate at a higher compression ratio, so they generate more power. These engines tend to be found in high-performance vehicles. Because ethanol has high octane, it is sometimes blended with gasoline in small amounts to boost octane rating. This mixture, in turn, can be used in high-performance engines.

Low-level blends of ethanol, such as E10 (10% ethanol, 90% gasoline), generally have a higher octane rating than unleaded gasoline. Low-octane gasoline can be blended with 10% ethanol to attain the standard 87 octane requirement.

Ethanol is the main component in E85, a high-level blend of 85% ethanol, 15% gasoline.

Opel Corsa OPC by Steinmetz

The Opel Corsa OPC is quite a little number with its 192 hp 1.6 turbo engine, but Steinmetz has some more fun adding factors in store for the hot hatch.

Starting with the engine, Steinmetz has a midified exhaust system for the Corsa OPC adding 10 hp to total at 202 hp and provides a deeper note to impress bystanders. The German tuning house also installed a new suspension system and lowered the car by 30mm, resulting in a lower center of gravity and less roll tendency.

Besides performance adjustements, Steinmetz has also developed some new visual extras like the new front grille Type II with honeycomb design and two-piece front spoiler. The front and sides are linked through 'designer stripes' in silver or anthracite, topped off with a aluminum filler cap and 16 to 19 inch bi-color wheels.

Press release:

The front spoiler in its 2-piece form, and the wheel and tyre combinations up to 19", are simply made for a high fun factor. And the "little one" delivers fun on every journey, especially with the modified exhaust which not only offers an extra 10 HP but also provides a deeper note. The overall package is completed by a 15 mm lowering, leaving the driver with lingering impressions to make him smile long after, when remembering the drive.

Engine/Silencer: The already powerful engine, developing 141kW/192HP as standard, has been coaxed by the Steinmetz engineers into giving a further 7kW/10HP thanks to the use of the new left/right silencer system. This exhaust is also available for the central silencer arrangement. So the "little" Corsa OPC by Steinmetz, with its hefty 202 HP, is ready for the sprint.

Suspension: The Steinmetz lowering kit brings the Corsa OPC by Steinmetz 30 mm nearer to the tarmac. "A few“ millimetres which reduce the vehicle's roll tendency and lower the centre of gravity. These two elements together give the Corsa OPC by Steinmetz even better road-holding in the limit zone, while retaining the expected level of comfort for everyday use.

Aerodynamics/Interior: Crouching down and apparently smiling from the headlamps, the power of the front is emphasised by Steinmetz front grille Type II in honeycomb design with its vertical double strut and 2-piece front spoiler. Flowing transitions provide a pleasing uniformity. The front and rear sections are linked by the new Steinmetz designer stripes in silver or anthracite, and the aluminium filler cap sets a further accent. The interior is enhanced by the Steinmetz foot mats with stainless steel.

Wheel/tyre combination: Wheel and tyre combinations from 16" to 19" are available for the Corsa OPC by Steinmetz. The ST3 can be fitted in size 8.0J x 19“ and the ST4 in 8.0J x 18“. The ST4 is a bicolor wheel which fascinates observers thanks to its black/silver appearance, where its brilliance is the result of the polished finish. The resulting light interplay gives the desired effect which makes the wheel a true eyecatcher. All components together combine to create an everyday "race car" in which every kilometre driven is a kilometre more fun.

Oversatisfied Costumer

I have mentioned here about my dental check up last month right? As far as I remember, I also mention how satisfied I was about their dental job. They cleaned my teeth so well, and replace the fillings I had on four of my tooth. My insurance company cover only 50% of the total expenses, so I paid half of it. Last week the secretary of my dentist called me and informed about the money their going to send for me because they charge overpay. Today, I received an envelop in my mailbox and sure enough its their check payable for me. I am really happy because they are so nice and honest to return my moneys back even though I have no idea how they calculate the price of their services rendered for me. Because of that I am so sure to go back them if I need a dental check up next time.

Getting Auto Moving Insurance

If you are going to have your car shipped you need insurance in case something goes wrong. Most companies engaged in the car moving business provide insurance of your vehicle, however, the coverage of insurance may range. So it’s a good idea to do some research before you decide upon the car mover.

Any auto transport company that has a license for car moving activities should have cargo and liability insurance as well. You need to have a clear idea of it, for if your car gets damaged on the road you will probably want coverage. It is not that something will happen for sure, but it is better to be safe than sorry, isn’t it? The first thing you should do is make sure that your car moving company has an insurance certificate, don’t be shy to ask them to show it to you. You are not obliged to believe anyone until you see the proof with your own eyes. If you still have any doubts don’t hesitate to contact their insurance company so as to double check the information.

Some auto movers provide very limited insurance coverage, sometimes it is even less than your car is actually worth. Inquire at their insurance company as for the exact terms and rights that you are offered. The things that you need to know are:

· Can you buy additional coverage?

· What is the limited coverage amount (if any)?

· Are there any parts of the vehicle that are not covered?

· What type of damage is included in the insurance?

The car moving company should provide you with insurance against theft and damage. It is highly recommended that you have a hard copy of their insurance policy spelling out whether their coverage is secondary or primary to your car insurance. Remember to contact your own car insurance company as well in order to find out what kind of coverage is provided by your existing policy.

If you are not sure whether your home policy insurance covers any damage or loss of your personal items, it’s better to remove them from your car. Car movers don’t usually insure any contents of the vehicle except for such items as a jack and a spare tire that are necessary.

You should also make sure that your vehicle carrier is registered with the Department of Transportation, if you want to avoid any possible troubles with getting the coverage in case of an insured accident.

If there are any disputes, it’s better to try and resolve them with your auto moving company first. They are usually determined to workout any problems. However, if you did your best but still feel that you have been treated in an unfair manner you can file complaints to the Federal Department of Transportation, BBB or Interstate Commerce Commission.

Alpina Returns to Racing with B6 GT3

After a 20 year hiatus, BMW specialist/manufacturer, Alpina, will return to motorsports with an entry into the 2009 FIA GT3 European Championships in addition to a few other prominent endurance races.

Alpina's motorsports history boasts of winning three European Touring Car Championships with such legendary drivers from F1 and Touring Cars as Niki Lauda, Jacky Ickx, Hans Stuck and Dieter Quester. Alpina drivers also won the Nürburgring 24 Hours numerous times, as well as the 24 Hours of Spa in 1970.

With Alpina's B6 S model as the basis, the B6 GT3 will step into a starting grid of 45 pure-bred challengers such as Ferrari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin to name a few. The B6 GT3 uses the super-charged 4.4 liter V8 engine from the B6 S making 530 HP, 725 Nm.

The prime directive, besides winning, is to raise Alpina's brand recognition as well as increasing exposure to markets new to the Alpina name. However, motorsports will be Alpina's fourth business venture as the B6 GT3 will not only be a factory car but sold to private parties, collectors and race teams as well.

See press release below for available Alpina team positions.

Press release:

ALPINA look back on a long and successful history in international motorsport. Well-known F1 and Touring Car drivers such as Niki Lauda, Jacky Ickx, Hans Stuck and Dieter Quester gripped an ALPINA steering wheel on their way to winning three European Touring Car Championships. ALPINA pilots also won the Nürburgring 24 Hours numerous times, as well as the 24 Hours of Spa in 1970.

“We think that the BMW 6 Series – especially with the super-charged, torque-laden 4,4 l V8 ALPINA engine from the B6 S (530 HP, 725 Nm) – provides the ideal basis to challenge pure-bred sportscars such as Ferrari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin within the framework of GT3 regulations“, said Andreas Bovensiepen, ALPINA proprietor.

After 20 years out of racing, ALPINA will field a factory team, running the B6 GT3 in the 2009 FIA GT3 European Championship, our race car based on the BMW ALPINA B6 S road car. ALPINA will field its this team in the FIA GT3 European Championship, as well as racing in selected important endurance races.

The idea of going racing with street-based dream cars has proven to be a great success for drivers, spectators and manufacturers alike. With this involvement in racing, ALPINA will be able to raise awareness of the ALPINA brand, especially in markets new to ALPINA. With ten distinguished automotive marques, the GT3 Championship is the Crème de la Crème, and with starting grids of 45 cars in the European Championship and multiple national championships, quite compelling. ALPINA see a well-thought-out concept at relatively reasonable cost. With his long racing history, Andreas Bovensiepen sees the benefit racing can bring, and has been the initiator of the new GT3 project from the very beginning.

Much like in the 1970s, ALPINA will also sell BMW ALPINA B6 GT3 race cars to private parties, collectors and race teams. This motorsport engagement will be ALPINA’s fourth business venture. It marks another milestone in ALPINA’s strategy of consistent, enduring growth. In addition to the race cars, ALPINA have been manufacturing road-going BMW ALPINA automobiles for over 40 years, and maintain a flourishing business trading in renowned wines from world’s finest growing regions. A new engineering centre, absolutely state-of-the-art in terms of its machinery and capabilities, will soon be completed. This will allow ALPINA to more quickly bring its products to market and to offer its engineering services to third parties.

Alpina Race Team Openings

So that we may build up our race team and successfully develop the race version of the BMW ALPINA B6 GT3, we’re looking for candidates with experience in motorsport. Your commitment and drive for perfection are the basis for future success. We expect a high level of flexibility, including weekends... Interested? Then compete for one of the following positions:

1.Project Manager

Cadillac CTS by D3 Research

The self-proclaimed leader in Cadillac Tuning, D3 Research, introduces an exterior styling package for the 2008 Cadillac CTS. With a side order of good ol' American bling bling, D3 focused on creating a look which projects style and performance while integrating into the natural design of the CTS. Starting with the stainless steel wire mesh grilles, front bumper fascia with additional cooling brake ducts, side skirts, rear deck lid spoiler, roof spoiler and rear lower diffuser.
Press release:

008 Cadillac CTS – D3 Performance Exterior Package

D3 Cadillac, the leader in Cadillac tuning, introduces the new 2008 Cadillac CTS Performance Exterior Package. The exterior enhancements are not only exquisitely designed styling cues integrated seamlessly, they are functional as well. The front grill has a unique jewel like cut on the stainless steel wire mesh that signifies performance & class. The additional openings in the front allow for a larger surface area to induce adequate cooling for the engine compartment. This is important when you start squeezing more performance out of this engine, as heat is a byproduct of making more power. Not only were the factory brake ducts maintained, but the front fascia also introduces double the cooling by adding an additional brake duct pick ups on each side. Notice the angled lip towards the lower edge of the front fascia. This angled edge has been designed and measured for just the right amount of down force without creating too much drag. The side skirts offer a much more complete look and help transfer the styling from the front of the vehicle to the rear without loosing the theme of the design. The rear deck lid spoiler and rear roof spoiler help introduce down force at high speed while keeping the air stable coming off the backside of the vehicle. The rear lower diffuser helps keep the air uniform while passing the underside of the vehicle. While at speed the air is kept moving uniform rather than curling up behind the vehicle, often promoting rear end lift at high speeds.

Is auto transporting for me?

So you want to move your car across the state. Your not sure if you should drive it or have it shipped on a. Before you decide how you want to transport your auto you must first decide if it is worth it. Ask yourself, do the benifits outweigh the costs? Not sure what i mean? Keep reading on and find out if auto transporting is for you!

Auto Transporting is not free. With every service their is a cost. Depending on how far and the type of vehicle you wish to move, it may not be worth doing. For an example if you own a 1992 Honda Civic that leaks oil, that starts 50% of the time and is a rust magnet, you should not waist your money and time transporting it. Some companies will only move vehicles that are in good running order. You will also want to consider if you want to put the extra miles on your vehicle. When your vehicle is transported on a truck, no extra miles will added to the engine. Also the cost of gas and accommodations that you will have to pay out of your pocket will be costly, especially for longer moves. If your moving across the country, choosing an auto transporter to move your vehicle is a wise decision.

As you can see it is usually a good idea to choose an auto transporter over driving your vehicle yourself. The benefits of auto transporting usually always outweigh the costs. Remember to contact various auto transport companies and do your research. It will make your auto transporting experience go much more smoothly.

ELECTRICAL POWER SYSTEMS (ELP)

Saudi Arabia has one of the highest per capita power consumption in the world.
Demand for power is growing at an average of seven percent annually, and the SAG is barely keeping up with this growth. Industry experts believe that the government has to add 50,000 MW of generating power over the next 23 years. The SAG is planning to invest $30 billion to increase electrical capacity by 20,000 MW by 2010. Private investors are also expected to invest and participate fully in this growth. With the stalling of the Gas Initiative, planned private power investment is on hold and the SAG is actively pushing new state-led power projects. By 2005, new capacity will come on stream with the completion and commissioning of the Ghazlan plant, Shuaiba plant, and expansion of Tabuk.

In line with its privatization efforts, the SAG brought about a merger between the Saline Water Conversion Corp. (SWCC) and Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC) to carry out independent water and power project (IWPPs) in partnership with developers. Reform in the electricity sector is advancing slowly in the need to re-price services, establish quality control standards, promote private investments, and protect consumer rights.

In May 2001, the SAG approved the formation of the Gulf Interconnection Authority (GCIA), which will be responsible for connecting the national grids of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, which include Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates. The company will develop the scheme on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis. The initial phase of the grid connecting the Northern Gulf region, including Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, will stretch some 1,200 kilometers and is expected to come on stream in 2008.

Ferrari 599 GTB by edo Competition

Tuning Ferrari's is always tricky business, these cars are already fine-tuned to the extreme and are left with little room for improvement. But leave it to edo Competition to take the Italian prancing pony to a new level.

Last year November edo Competition set to work on the engine resulting in two engine upgrades, Stage 1 called the 599 GTB with 650 hp with 660 Nm torque (up from factory 620 hp and 608 Nm torque) and Stage 2 630 GTB with 750 hp and 720 Nm torque.

Today edo has revealed a new aerodynamic package for their 599 GTB and 630 GTB in order to adapt aerodynamics to the higher top speed and increased cooling demands caused by the power hike, the 630 GTB Scuderia package.

The new front apron features a larger cooling air inlet improving the engines thermal balance, the larger center inlet provides cool air for the brakes and the front spoiler improves downforce on the front axle. The side skirts reduce crosswind sensitivity and improve wheelarch ventilation. A new 6 blade diffuser enhances rear axle downforce at higher speeds, while the carbon lip spoiler adds to the stability and rear downforce. All the new parts are made of carbon fibre and reduce the weight of the car by 50 kg.

VW Debuts Park Assist Vision Concept

Different from VW's “Park Assist” semi-automatic parallel park-steering system already available in the Touran, Tiguan and Passat, the all new “Park Assist Vision” system allows parking into perpendicular parking spaces. The really cool thing about this system is that it's fully automatic – no driver required! In fact the system is engaged by the driver using the key remote control while standing outside of the car. The car then proceeds to to reverse park itself into the parking space. Once the car reaches its final resting place, the engine turns off and the doors lock. Besides the obvious advantage for those with less than promising parking skills, the PAV system promises precision parking allowing the vehicle to fit into tight spots where the occupants would otherwise be unable to get in and out of the car comfortably.

The driver engages the system by selecting an available space on the navigation monitor, set the DSG gear selection lever to “P” and exit the vehicle, if desired. It's advisable to inform the passengers first before exiting the car, so they don't grab the steering wheel for dear life, however, the driver can stay in the car as well.

Debuting at the Hanover Fair in Germany until April 25th, the PAV system uses two cameras located in the side view mirrors, two additional cameras in the front and rear, ultrasonic sensors, electromechanic power steering and a 2-GHz high-performance computer which analyzes the video signals and sends commands to the steering and drive systems.

If things do awry, the driver may interrupt the manoeuvre at any time using the remote control. According to VW, the PAV system is “still in the trial phase of development, and a date has not yet been set for introduction of the system to series production.”

Whats For My Dinner?

I have 3 cheeses garlic bread for my dinner. Simple but irresistible..

Mercedes SLK by Brabus

The Mercedes-Benz SLK facelift has only been revealed a few months ago and Brabus, Mercedes tuner extra-ordinaire, has already made a customization program for the roadster. The program consists of aerodynamic enhancements, custom alloy wheels, suspension and of course a power upgrade.

The top of the range SLK 55 AMG is powered by Brabus' 6.1 liter engine (the stock 55 AMG engine is 5.5 liter, 360 hp and 510 Nm torque) and produces 445 hp (327 kW) with a peak torque of 635 Nm. the engine is hooked up to a seven-speed automatic gearbox and Brabus' self developed limited-slip differential. A zero to 100 km/h sprint should take no more than 4.3 seconds while the top speed is claimed to be 305 km/h.

The new aerodynamic parts have all been developed in the wind tunnel. The front spoiler reduces lift when driving high speeds the side rocker panels improve the airflow between the front and rear wheels. The rear receives a Brabus apron with boot spoiler and room for the four chrome tailpipes which betrays the presence of a Brabus stainless-steel sport exhaust system.

The German tuning house also offers suspension modifications like sport springs which lower the car by 30 mm. The center of gravity is therefor lowered and reduces body roll in fast corners, excellent in combination with sporty wide tires. Brabus offers several alloy wheels in sizes 17, 18 or 19 inch.

Extra horsepower needs extra stopping power, so Brabus fits six-piston aluminum fixed calipers and 355 mm vented and slotted discs in front and 300 mm discs with four-piston aluminum fixed calipers in the rear.

Press release:

Concurrent with the market launch of the updated Mercedes SLK-Class, BRABUS presents an exclusive customization program. The palette of products ranges from engine tuning with up to 445 hp (438 hp SAE net) / 327 kW of power to a sporty-yet elegant aerodynamic-enhancement program, and includes custom-tailored light-alloy wheels and suspensions as well as individual interior options.

For the top-of-the-line SLK55 AMG model, BRABUS offers its 6.1 S displacement engine. It has a rated power output of 445 hp (438 hp SAE net) / 327 kW and produces a peak torque of 635 Nm (468 lb-ft). Power is transferred to the road via a modified seven-speed automatic gearbox and a custom-developed BRABUS limited-slip differential. With a sprint time from 0 - 100 km/h (62 mph) of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 305 km/h (191 mph) the BRABUS-tuned roadster sets new standards in its class.

All BRABUS engines are lubricated with ARAL high-performance motor oil and all are backed by the one-of-a-kind BRABUS Tuning Warranty of three years or 100,000 kilometers/62,000 miles (see BRABUS warranty conditions as of November 2006).

The installation of the BRABUS stainless-steel sport exhaust system is beneficial not only for tuned engines. Its four chrome-plated tailpipes give the SLK a more exclusive appearance and produce an even more sonorous exhaust note on all SLK engines.

For the updated SLK the BRABUS designers have once again made use of the wind tunnel to develop an aerodynamic-enhancement package in OEM quality that in combination with the chrome-plated BRABUS roadster roll bars lends the two-seater a sporty yet elegant appearance.

The striking BRABUS front spoiler reduces lift on the front axle at high speeds. BRABUS headlamp inserts with daytime running lights further improve driving safety.

BRABUS rocker panels smooth the airstream between front and rear wheels, and give the new-generation SLK a longer, sleeker appearance. Integrated entrance lights illuminate the ground on either side of the SLK and make getting in and out of the car safer in the dark.

The rear of the SLK is upgraded by the BRABUS apron with cutouts for the quad sport exhaust and the understated BRABUS spoiler lip on the trunk lid.

BRABUS light-alloy wheels are available for the Mercedes SLK in one-piece or multi-piece
designs with diameters of 17, 18 and 19 inches. The large selection of BRABUS Monoblock rims in four different designs starts with 8.5Jx17 Monoblock A wheels that come with an EG general operating certificate. The largest tire/wheel combination for the SLK features BRABUS Monoblock VI, E or S wheels in size 8.5Jx19 in front and in size 9.5Jx19 on the rear axle. BRABUS recommends high-performance tires from BRABUS technology partners YOKOHAMA or Pirelli in size 225/35 ZR 19 on the front axle and in size 255/30 ZR 19 in back.

The available BRABUS suspension modifications for the SLK are specifically calibrated to the use with such sporty wide tires. Engine-specific BRABUS sport springs lower the ride height of the roadster by some 30 millimeters. BRABUS sport suspensions combine this lowered center of gravity with a firmer yet comfortable damper setup. To reduce body roll further in fast corners BRABUS offers stronger sway bars.

BRABUS also offers various versions of high-performance brake systems for the new SLK. The largest version features six-piston aluminum fixed calipers and 355-mm (14 inches) vented and slotted discs on the front axle. The rear axle is fitted with 300-mm (11.8 inches) discs and four-piston aluminum fixed calipers. Special flex-steel brake lines ensure continuous high brake pressure.

The stylish customization of the SLK cockpit is yet another BRABUS specialty. The list of available components includes highly polished stainless-steel scuff plates with illuminated BRABUS logo, various versions of the ergonomically shaped BRABUS sport steering wheel and a speedometer with 330-km/h (206 mph) dial. Especially exclusive is an interior upholstered with soft yet durable Mastik leather and Alcantara. The BRABUS upholsterers don't limit themselves to working on seats, door panels, dashboard and center console: Upon customer request they'll meticulously sew miles of thread to cover floor, rear firewall and driveshaft tunnel with waffle-patterned leather.

Tata Jaguar any worse than Ford Jaguar?

Ta Ta Jaguar
The European luxury brands have been a drag on Ford, which is focusing on a turnaround in its North American business. The company is getting $2.3 billion in the sale, but it is contributing $600 million to the Jaguar and Land Rover pension plans when the deal closes. That means Ford is netting roughly a third of what it paid for Jaguar (acquired in 1989) and Land Rover (in 2000).

For Tata, much has been written about how the deal marks a big global leap for the 139-year-old Indian conglomerate that began making cars just 10 years ago. Tata Group, a large steelmaker, has recently ventured into businesses like chemicals and luxury hotels. With the purchase of Jaguar and Land Rover, Tata Motors hopes to learn about marketing and selling in the West.

Some have questioned how Tata Motors can make what seems to be a bigger leap: from mass to class. Tata is best known for being the maker of the cheapest car in the world: the Nano, a 100,000 rupee ($2,500) 33-horsepower car, in India.

Still, if Jaguar and Land Rover can continue to retain their mystique and cachet while being made in Britain—and its history of failed automakers and sometimes shoddy manufacturing—then buyers shouldn't mind too much if their owners are now in Mumbai.

John Elliott on the Riding the Elephant blog on Fortune.com says that besides whether Tata can break the British auto industry's "cycle of decline," the other big question is what happens when Ratan Tata, the conglomerate's patriarch who is now 70, retires.

"It is Tata who has provided the personal drive and leadership to turn Tata Motors into a business that can produce the Nano and buy two world-famous brands in the same year. There's a big job waiting for someone—and Tata is not yet saying who."

After years of being unable to make a profit off Jaguar, Ford is trying to sell it. One of the interested buyers is Tata, a highly profitable Indian firm that runs several luxury brands including Taj hotels and Tetley Tea.

The TATA brand is a well-established brand in India. As you would know, the TATA group has a diversified portfolio of brands whether it be in the steel industry ( Corus, for example) or other industries such as automobiles, hotels etc. So, they know how to manage brands. Plus, they are a highly efficient group and have always been since their inception. The only difference is that they are now going global (though frankly, the Indian market itself provides ample scope). I would be surprised if the American public subscribed to the view of this gentleman. Rather, i believe that people will appreciate the core values that the TATA's live by, especially their work ethic. Assuming they strike the Jaguar deal, one would hope their efforts will maximise value for shareholders and help in growing the value and visibility of brand jaguar. Further, i must add that the gentleman's remarks show that even businessmen wear blinkers. Indian business talent, managerial skills etc have developed over decades (pre and post market-liberalisation)and therefore one finds Indians at the top rung in global companies(Citibank, Pepsi etc)and as successful entrepreneurs/businessmen(of course with great inputs in higher education from American universities and India's IIM's/IIT's). So, clearly, talent and ability to manage a brand/business is not the deficiency here. The deficiency arises out of warped ideas and perceptions which are relics of a Cold-War era when there was little Indo-US cultural (and business) exchange and the only reports newspapers carried of India were one of poverty, starvation, snake-charmers and elephants! Now, i wouldn't say it was all fake but i certainly feel that it was exaggerated. Actually,it was bound to be so, considering the complexity, variety and diversity of India and the fact that one can't generalise its people culturally or economically.

Beijing 2008: Nissan unveils new Teana and Teana XV

All New Teana:
Back in October of last year, Nissan unveiled the Intima concept at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. The large front-wheel-drive sedan previewed the styling for the new Teana (above, dark) and more luxurious Teana XV (above, light) that Nissan and its Chinese joint-venture partner Dongfeng debuted at the Auto China show in Beijing. The connection between concept and production vehicle is strong here, with the windswept front fasica, large greenhouse, and kink at the bottom of the C-pillar coming over intact. The flush grille, LED headlamps and suicide doors, however, did not.

The Teana will have a strong link to the western world thanks to the platform on which it rides, which is also shared with the Altima, Maxima and Murano. Power is provided by Nissan's award-winning 3.5L VQ V6 engine, which is mated to a CVT transmission for the Chinese. It appears that a bevy of 2.0 and 2.5L four-cylinder powerplants will also be available when the car goes on sale in late Summer.

Make no mistake, the Teana is a large, luxurious front-wheel-drive sedan, just like the current Maxima here in the U.S. It even features such niceties as a BOSE 5.1-channel surround sound system and Nissan's panoramic sunroof in the XV version.
Check out more pics of the new Nissan Teana in the gallery below.

What is an electric vehicle?

In an electric vehicle (EV), a battery or other energy storage device is used to store the electricity that powers the motor. EV batteries must be replenished by plugging in the vehicle to a power source. Some electric vehicles have onboard chargers; others plug into a charger located outside the vehicle. Both types, however, use electricity that comes from the power grid. Although electricity production may contribute to air pollution, EVs are considered zero-emission vehicles because their motors produce no exhaust or emissions.

There are currently no light-duty electric vehicles available from the major auto manufacturers. Neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs), on the other hand, are being manufactured by a variety of companies. These small vehicles are commonly used for neighborhood commuting, light hauling, and delivery. Their use is limited to areas with 35 mph speed limits or for off-road service on college campus or at airports or resort areas.

Because they can only reach speeds of 35 mpg, NEVs are not considered light-duty vehicles and are not eligible for fleet credit under the Energy Policy Act of 1992 Standard Compliance option and Federal Fleet Requirements. However, their versatility in moving people through limited commute areas makes them useful in a variety of applications. Other useful EVs in niche applications include electric scooters and bikes.

Weekend Getaway At Palm Beach County

Yesterday we went to roam around the Palm Beach county. First, we headed to Boca Raton City, next in Delray Beach City, and in West Palm Beach City. Palm Beach County is located in the south of Florida. The county is the third most populous in the state of Florida and the twenty ninth most populous in the United States. Over 40 percent of the county's population lives in unincorporated areas.

Palm Beach County is one of three counties that comprise the South Florida metropolitan area, and being formed in 1909, is the area's second oldest county.
