Affiliates Corner at SMU – 20 Apr

Affiliates’ Corner brings together, intellectual property owners, innovators and experienced professionals who are interested in entrepreneurships to promote commercialization of innovations through generation of start-ups. This next Affiliates’ Corner will have Mr Eric Tan, from SPRING Start-up Enterprise Development Scheme (SPRING SEEDS) share his experience in seed funding and nurturing innovative start-ups into successful ventures. Dr Miles Gilman, MD, A2 BioScience and Mentor-in-Residence, SMU IIE will also discuss on “Minimizing Start Up Risk Through IRR Techniques”.

“Entrepreneurship Development” by Mr Eric Tan, SPRING SEED Singapore

The presentation will include a brief overview of the Entrepreneurship landscape in Singapore, overview of SPRING Singapore and SPRING SEED’s programme in promoting entrepreneurship and support start-ups.

The SPRING Start-up Enterprise Development Scheme (SPRING SEEDS) is an equity-based co-financing option for Singapore-based start-ups creating innovative products and/or processes, possessing intellectual content and strong growth potential across international markets. SPRING SEEDS Capital co-invests into commercially viable local start-ups, with differentiated value proposition and matches dollar-for-dollar to third-party investor(s), up to $1million, upon investment approval.

To date, SPRING SEEDS Capital has invested in various growth sectors such as science and technology, information communications technology and business services space. .As Senior Investment Manager, SPRING SEEDS Capital Pte Ltd, Mr Eric Tan will share his experience in working with angel investors to seed fund and nurture innovative start-ups into successful ventures.

“Minimizing Start Up Risk Through IRR Techniques” by Dr Miles Gilman, Mentor-in-Residence, SMU IIE

Dr. Gilman has over 25 years experience as a serial entrepreneur in the healthcare industry. During his career, he has participated in drug research, fund management, healthcare services and biotechnology. His stakeholders have included; hospitals, NGO’s, private, corporate, institutional, professional and public investors.

Dr. Gilman has sat on numerous boards of private, public and not-for-profit organizations as well as incubators, research institutes and charities including; universities, hospitals and education systems. He has his own start up in Singapore and is a part of the IIE team at SMU as a “Mentor-In-Residence” in healthcare.
