2009 Vespa S 150
Advanced technology and iconic styling are the trademarks of the Vespa S. With its clean essential lines, the Vespa S 150 is a minimalist version of the legendary 1970s models, and proof that the young spirit of Vespa is still very much alive.
The appeal of the sporty 'Vespino' lives on in the shape of the all-new Vespa S, inspired by Vespa's long traditions in young and dynamic scooter design. The minimalist styling of the Vespa S traces its origins back to legendary models like the Vespa 50 Special and the Vespa Primavera.
The Vespa Special (1969) and Vespa Primavera (1967) became the icons of a generation whose aspirations and conquests were to shape the world for decades to come. Compact, nippy, and dynamic, these models led the way in creating new trends in design and technology, appealing to a youthful generation.
The new Vespa S reflects the same sporty and dynamic characteristics of this previous generation. Design and technology have been carefully considered to emphasize the essence and spirit of Vespa; design is in keeping with the classic Vespa, whilst technology is up to date.

Vespa S 150, freedom for whoever wants it.
Conceived to interpret the sporty young spirit of the 1970s Vespino into a modern key, the Vespa S has now grown into a 150 for more 'adult' performance and a more carefree ride. The new Vespa S 150 maintains the lightness, agility and sporty look of the 50 and 125 versions, but offers better performance in terms of power and flexibility, extending its realm on to motorways and ring roads.
With the Vespa S 150, your desire for freedom is limited only by your own imagination. Agility and lightness are still unrivalled in city traffic, but increased power and torque from a bigger engine make the new Vespa S 150 ideal for trips into the country and short motorway journeys, solo or with a passenger. The 150 cc engine enables you to ride on the motorways and fast ring roads that many commuters have to tackle on their way to and from school, college or work.
The style of the Vespa S
Sporty, dynamic and young, the Vespa S stands out for its clean, essential and minimalist lines in the new 150 cc version too.
The handlebar fairing houses a rectangular headlight. This is a clear reference to the amazing 50 Special that was the style icon of teenagers throughout the fabulous 1970s. The mudguard is minimised to draw attention to the suspension and features a chrome trim for an even sleeker look. The mudguard's limited dimensions emphasise the finish of the light alloy front wheel, a tribute to the performance of the Vespa S and its high-tech design.

Even the seat reminds you of typical 70's styling. The 'touring' seat that comes as standard on the 150 provides more room and comfort for rider and passenger. Hardened 'sportsters' can nevertheless still fit an (optional) 'sport' solo seat with the inimitable Vespa banana shape. Both seats are upholstered in new materials and decorated with a light trim to emphasise their outlines.

The rear of the Vespa S is simple and sleek, with a new tail light designed to enhance the scooter's lightweight looks.
With its minimalist but decisive styling, simple yet elegant design, the Vespa S features the same dynamism and freshness that made the Vespa the favourite scooter of young people in the roaring seventies.

Frame and chassis: the uniqueness of Vespa

As always, the sheet steel body acts as a structural frame, a design solution that is unique in the world of scooter production. The body is formed in an advanced industrial process. In addition to superior strength, this design also ensures exceptional rigidity, leading to excellent road holding and precision control.

The front suspension, based on a double acting hydraulic shock absorber, stands out for its aeronautical single arm design. Another distinctive feature of all Vespas, since the very first model, this technical solution has been constantly updated. The link arm on the Vespa S pivots on roller cage bearings for minimum friction.

The rear suspension features a double acting hydraulic monoshock that is even adjustable in preload, offering four possible settings for perfect rider and passenger comfort under all conditions.
The 11" front wheel gives the Vespa S great stability, inspiring the rider with a feeling of confidence and control. The tyres are tubeless, size 110/70 on the front and 120/70 on the 10" rear. The braking system comprises the classic combination of disc and drum. The system features a 200 mm stainless steel front disc with a two piston caliper and a 110 mm rear drum.

The 8.6 litre fuel tank is located inside the body where it does not reduce the size of the under-seat storage compartment, and where it also allows easy access to the engine.

Engine

The new Vespa S 150 is equipped with a modern, ecological, air cooled four stroke engine characterised by excellent performance, low running costs and full compliance with the strict Euro 3 emission control standards.

Thanks to this new power plant, the Vespa S 150 is perfectly at home commuting and out of town. Maximum power of over 12 HP and a maximum torque of 11.8 Nm at 6,500 rpm mean quick, safe overtaking and a satisfying, easy ride even with a passenger. The mechanical components of the new engine have been optimised to reduce maintenance requirements and extend service intervals.
