21st Century Insurance, a personal auto insurance business subsidiary of American International Group, has laid off 7% of its workforce, or nearly 500 employees, in response to decline in premiums in the midst of the economic downturn, according to reports.The staffing and organizational changes took place at 38 locations of 21st Century Insurance. TORONTO - Lawyer groups say a review of the insurance industry released Friday is good news for accident victims facing massive deductibles imposed by auto insurers.The five-year review, conducted by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, advises the provincial government to reduce the deductibles for injured accident victims from the current $15,000 and $30,000 to $10,000 and $20,000.The Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and Ontario Bar Association, which welcomed the report, say it recognizes the "punitive nature" of the industry's deductibles....
