Startup Weekend Singapore concluded last weekend with 6 product prototypes coming out of it. This 54-hour event marathon started with 20 ideas being pitched on stage, which was then distilled to the final 6 ideas.
Some of the final ideas that were presented during the final pitch were, EventSprout - online platform for post event content curation, on-demand teacher marketplace, remittance cost comparison service, event affiliation service and gift recommendation platform for couples.
On Friday, when the event started, 45 attendees showed up including 10 investors and mentors. Marc Nager, Director of Startup Weekend said, “For a first time event, the numbers are pretty good.” As an organizer of the event, he is obviously impressed with the quality of ideas from Startup Weekend Singapore and said, “It’s incredible and [I'm] working with lots of smart people around.”
The final winner of this event was EventSprout, which had a nine member team including Gwen Tan from SGEntrepreneurs, Daniel Cerventus from Entrepreneurs.my.
When asked about organizing this again in Singapore, Nager says, “You bet!” He says he will be coming back in six months time to do the second Startup Weekend.
