Google India has announced the launch of Street View in India. Google Maps with Street View product lets you explore places around the world through 360-degree street-level imagery.
This February, we told you about the Google StreetView car struggling in Delhi traffic (though Google India claims that they haven’t done any driving in any other Indian city) but for now, Google is launching the service in Bangalore. Street View Cars will be fully branded and driving starts May 27th (including Google Trikes/Tricycles).
Google Street View displays images taken from a fleet of specially adapted cars. Areas not accessible by car, like pedestrian areas, narrow streets, alleys and ski resorts, are sometimes covered by Google Trikes (tricycles) or a snowmobile. On each of these vehicles there are nine directional cameras for 360° views at a height of about 8.2 feet, or 2.5 meters, GPS units for positioning and three laser range scanners for the measuring of up to 50 meters 180° in the front of the vehicle.

Google will start gathering images from select locations in the area such as the Nrityagram Dance Village over the next few weeks(via).
What about privacy?
Well, Google has faced lawsuits regarding the Streetview product (lost the lawsuit in Switzerland), so Google India has clearly mentioned that all faces and license plates will be blurred.
Overall, an exciting development. We certainly hope that Google India manages to find its way through the ever growing (and unmanageable) Bangalore traffic.
