There’s no doubt social media is the “it” thing in Indonesia in 2010 with the popularity of Facebook, Twitter, Koprol, and Foursquare engulfing up to 30 million of the country’s internet users. Riding on that wave is SixReps, a social network for fitness enthusiasts which launched in beta late November.
The brainchild of serial entrepreneur and startup junkie Sanny Gaddafi with his partner Denny Santoso, a veteran of the fitness industry and CEO of Jaya Sportindo, SixReps carries gym activities into the social space. The two co-founders are hoping to change the behaviors of gym-goers who tend to exercise within their own space and often without proper instructions to something that resemble what Nike+ has done for runners around the world.
SixReps wants to offer the proper exercises and activities based on each member’s personal goals and preferences by providing instructions, videos, and nutritional guides that can be tailored accordingly. Members can also enter competitions, share interests, tips, motivate, and compare achievements with each other.
There are also personal tracking features called BodyStat and BodyProgress. These modules keep track of personal achievements and physical measurements during the entire fitness program and allows members to upload photos to mark personal milestones.
In 2011, SixReps plans to include a location component which will enable gym owners and managers to register their outlets on the website and provide tips and promotions to members who check in at their venues. Members would also be able to leave their impressions of each venue and provide feedback to individual gyms.
