SingTel Innov8 (Innov8) is the corporate venture capital arm of the SingTel Group. With an initial fund size of S$200 million, it focuses its investments on technologies and solutions that may lead to quantum changes in network capabilities, next generation devices, digital content services and enablers to enhance customer experience.
To date, Innov8 has invested in six local and international companies such as the Singapore-based 2359 Media and Stream Media, as well as US companies like Baynote and BubbleMotion.
Unlike other venture capital firms, Innov8’s investing activities are focused on both the strategic value of an investment as well as the financial returns. As a company looking for funding, the terms of the investment would also be a consideration. Innov8 does not usually take a controlling stake in its portfolio companies, and gives them the freedom to carry out their intended agendas.
Innov8, being part of the SingTel Group, offers developers and innovators access to the scale and reach of over 400 million mobile customers across Asia and Africa, as well as the resources of the SingTel Group. In return, the SingTel Group gains early access to new technologies, allowing it to enhance its customer proposition and make forays into new markets or segments.
Innov8 is always on the lookout for the next hot company. Together with e27, Innov8 is looking to expand its reach deeper into the Asian region. Innov8 will also be working with e27 on our annual technology conference, Echelon 2011, with the hope of finding its next investment opportunity. Companies will have the chance to talk to Innov8 at Echelon 2011.
To facilitate this, all early Echelon 2011 Exhibitor submissions will be given to Innov8 prior to the event for it to identify companies that may be of interest to the SingTel Group.
