From the creators of last year's R8 V10 garage door decal promo, comes this new advertising project for Audi. This time, creative advertising agency Lowe Roche, came up with a groovy Audi R8 Spyder car cover aimed at BMW and Mercedes-Benz owners who are disappointed with their vehicles, as well as the rest of us who can't afford [...] Ingolstadt's flagship roadster model. If you were ever wondering what an actuall Audi R8 sports sedan would look like, sorry to say, you're out of luck. However, if by any twisted chance you're interested in finding out what would happen if a first-generation A8 and R8 got naughty in bed, scroll down and check out the rest of the photos. According to the forum members of the Audizine site, the R8-wannabe sports sedan was snagged outside Hooters (now, why aren't we surprised...) in Montreal, Canada.Read more »
Anderson Germany is just one in a long line of tuners who think they can make the Audi R8 better. Called the Racing Edition, the Düsseldorf-based tuner's R8 V10 has gone through a number of external and internal modifications, including an engine upgrade that increases peak power to 585 hp (436 kW). Eisenmann is mostly known for its performance exhaust systems, but the German company has now presented a comprehensive tuning package for the Audi R8 sports car. It's called the "Spark Eight" and it features full-blown carbon aerodynamic kit finished in a light grey color, along with some other goodies, such as new alloy wheels, a tweaked chassis and, of course, a new exhaust system. There's a first time for everything. For Audi, it's SEMA as this year's edition of the show will mark the brand's first ever factory-backed appearance at the annual tuning extravaganza in Las Vegas.
In addition to its lineup of after sales and electronics products, Audi will put on display six-vehicles including the driver-less Autonomous Audi TTS Pikes Peak and a customized R8 Spyder tuned by STaSIS Engineering. The latter is equipped with a 5.2-liter supercharged V10 engine delivering 710-horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque, and can complete the 0 to 60mph [96 km/h] sprint in 3.1 seconds.
Audi has dropped a boat load of fresh images of the hard-core version of its R8 supercar called the GT. You can read all the details in our previous post here, but as a refresher, the GT is a lighter, more powerful and faster variant of the R8.
It is powered by a modified version of the R8 V10's naturally aspirated 5.2-liter direct-injection engine producing 550-horsepower, while thanks to a series of weight-saving measures that shave about 100kg (220 lbs), the car tips the scales at 1,525 kilograms (3,362 lbs).
The television show Top Gear compared the Nissan GT-R to the R8, and remarked that the R8 was "simultaneously less impressive and yet somehow more involving". On the R8 they wrote that "it rewards driver input", calling it "fantastic in a way that will appeal more to true car enthusiasts", but also remarked that it was "much slower", and the GT-R was cheaper. On their test track, the car performed better than a Lamborghini Gallardo and an Aston Martin DB9.
What you see pictured here is the result of a truly horrifying accident involving an Audi R8 that occurred in Athens, Greece. As you can see, the guardrail, which by the way, is supposed to protect drivers (...), has pierced the German supercar from front to back. We don't have all the details, but it is said that the driver of the car miraculously survived the crash, but not without serious injuries, while the female passenger escaped unhurt.
Well, we guess that the title says it all, but if it doesn't, this wacky advert showing two men dressed in bear suits having a night of their life after renting a Ferrari California and an Audi R8, was created by Nick Miller to promote the California-based Midway Car Rental company. Watch the three-minute-long video after the break.
Before you start thinking otherwise, let us to tell you that what Senna Tuning really means by the term 'Super Sport Concept', is a performance package with engine, suspension and wheel upgrades for the Audi R8 4.2 V8 FSI. The main event of the treatment concerns the V8 engine. A reprogrammed ECU, the use of special sport air filter and a custom built exhaust system, all help to boost output from 420HP and 430Nm to 458 horsepower and 470Nm of torque.
Then, the German tuning house adds sport suspension springs that lower the R8's ride height by about 25mm up front and 15mm at the back, while the package is finished with a set of 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in high performance Dunlop tires.
The full package including the engine modifications is priced at €14,900 or around US$22,500 at today's exchange rates.
Many gear heads like ourselves, like to decorate their office desk with scale model cars that chances are, will never be able to afford in this life. Now what better for our congested workspace if the scale model could also incorporate a hard drive? Well, at least that seems to be the idea behind the products of a company called Flash Rods that specializes on scale model cars with integrated flash or hard drives.
The company's latest creation is a 1:18 scale Audi R8 that incorporates a hard drive disk that connects up to your PC by USB to store all your files. The company said that the Audi R8 will be available for sale on November 1st, in 250GB, 500GB and 640GB configurations and numerous colors.
The company hasn't announced prices yet for the R8, but the already available 1:18 scale Dodge Challenger and Nissan GT-R HDDs both start from $209.99 for the 250GB versions.
So, you're probably wondering by now whether or not we're pulling your leg, right? Well, if you read the title carefully, you'll have noticed that we said "on" and not "in" your garage. To explain. Being realistic and all, Audi is well aware of the fact that with a six-figure price tag, very few people in this world can afford to park a 535HP V10-powered R8 5.2 FSI in their garage.
With this in mind, the creative folks of Audi's Canadian division came up with the next best thing to owning the vehicle itself: a 1:1 scale, life-size print of red R8 V10 for your... garage door.
At first we thought it must be some sort of marketing / advertising gimmick, but Audi of Canada actually offers the special print for sale on its official website at a price of $469.99 CAD (about $430 US or €293 at today's exchange rates).
The R8 garage cover is available for three different garage door sizes but unfortunately for most of you that liked the idea, you'll be thwarted to know that it's only offered for Canadian residents.
