Today, the Honda-obsessed team at the Temple of VTEC forums claim to have solved part of this mystery thanks some inside sources that told them a 2.4-liter gasoline engine, very similar to the Acura TSX’s powerplant, will make its way into the new Civic Si.

On the outside, Honda's designers opted for a more evolutionary styling rather than a radical step in design, blending the current model's shape with styling details from some of the firm's latest models such as the CR-Z hybrid and the North American Accord.
The two concept models do not appear to feature an interior or a powertrain. However, Honda said that the 2012 Civic range will continue to include a sporty "Si" performance version, as well as hybrid and natural-gas variants. The illustration depicts a coupe model with possible styling influences from the European market Civic hatchback (front) and the North American Accord Coupe (profile). Honda did not release any specific details on the car, but we suspect that we'll learn more within the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned.

Sales of Honda's UK-produced Civic Type R 3-door model have begun in Japan after the first examples of the car were shipped from Southampton. Japan is the third market after Australia and South Africa to receive a hatchback version of the latest generation Civic this year as the three- and five-door body styles of the compact car were originally conceived as Europe-only models.The arrival of the 201HP Civic Type R hatch in Japan marks the second time since 2001 that the European-built Civic has been sold in Honda's home market.
The automaker plans to sell a total of 2,010 units of the Civic Type R 3-door in Japan. The cars will are available for order in three shades: Milano Red, Alabaster Silver and Championship White/
The Euro-spec Type R is fitted with a high-revving 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that cranks out 201 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and 142 lb-ft of torque at 5,600 rpm.
In addition to the CR-Z sports coupe, Skydeck MPV and EV-N concept studies, Honda's exhibits at this year's Tokyo Motor Show also included the new Civic Type R Euro which the company plans to introduce in Japan in November. The three-door hatch is built at Honda's Swindon factory in the UK and is fitted with a rev-happy 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four that makes 201 HP at 7,800 rpm and 142 lb-ft of torque at 5,600 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual.Honda did not disclose any performance figures for the JDM-spec Civic Type R hatch, but we gather there won't any changes over the European market version that goes from naught to 62mph (100 km/h) in 6.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 146mph or 235 km/h.

If you're a German buyer looking for a five-door Civic with a sportier appearance, then you may want to tick the option box for the new GT package that is available on the 100HP 1.4 Sport and 140HP 1.8 Sport petrol models. Similar to the Si grade offered in the UK, the GT sport package includes a painted bumpers and side skirts, mesh front grille and dark chrome door handles and fuel cap.The half leather upholstery inside and the dark finish alloy wheel round off the changes. Priced at €500, the GT sport package can be combined only with four exterior colors - Milano Red, Alabaster Silver Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl and Deep Sapphire Blue Pearl.
Beginning from September, British buyers interested in the 5-door version of the Honda Civic will have one more grade to choose from as the Japanese automaker announced the launch of a new Si trim level. Available across the entire 5-door Civic range, in all engine variants and transmissions, the Si grade package includes colour-coded bumpers, front fog lights, a Type R-style mesh front grille and dark chrome door handles and fuel cap.
Furthermore, the 1.4-litre Si model gets Graphite colored 16-inch alloy wheels while the higher-powered 1.8 petrol and 2.2 diesel Si Civics will ride on 17-inch Graphite colored alloy rims.
Interior treats include half leather upholstery along with a USB port for iPod connectivity.
According to Honda, the Si variants of the Civic priced at £850 over the equivalent SE grade models.

Following Australia and South Africa, Japan will be the third country outside Europe to receive the British-built Civic Type R 3-door hatchback. The model, which will be called the Civic Type R EURO to distinguish it from the Japanese-market 4-door Civic Type R saloon, will go on sale in Japan from 2010 in limited numbers. The European-spec Type R is powered by a high-revving 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four that makes 201 HP at 7,800 rpm and 142 lb-ft of torque at 5,600 rpm.The 3-door Type R can accelerate from zero to 62mph (100 km/h) in 6.6 seconds and achieve a top speed of 146mph or 235 km/h while returning a combined fuel economy figure of 31mpg UK - that's 25.8 mpg US or 9.1 lt /100km.
Japan also imported the previous-generation Swindon-built Civic Type-R (EP3 model) in 2001.
Honda's decision to import the latest Civic Type R from Europe also suggests that the 240HP Mugen Type R concept, teaser photos of which were released in July, will most likely make it into production.
This story just came in so we don't have all the details yet, but according to a translated teaser press release from Honda's in-house tuning division, these are the first photos of the Euro-spec Mugen Honda Civic Type-R 3d that is slated to be launched in Europe this summer. The release does not explain if what we're seeing here is simply an aero-kit or as it has been rumored, a complete conversion with mechanical and styling upgrades. However, we do know that the famed tuning firm calls the concept 'Premium Super Sport' - if that tells you anything. 
In typical Mugen-fashion, the tuning firm has readied a rather aggressive bodykit for the futuristic-looking Euro-spec Civic Type-R 3d, which in standard form is powered by a 2.0-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder engine churning out 200HP to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.
The aero parts include a massive rear-wing, side skirts, twin hood scoops, a new rear apron with an integrated diffuser and two Jumbo-size tail-pipes, a blacked out Mugen grille, new front bumper with an integrated lip spoiler and wider fenders housing side air-vents plus gunmetal gray multispoke alloy wheels.
