Volvo Trucks revealed Volvo FMX truck

Volvo Trucks has revealed the Volvo FMX truck at the Bauma international machinery fair in Munich. The Volvo FMX is based on FM truck, which is a production truck. The OEM is glancing to drastically raise its market share in the production segment. In Europe, the FMX will be available for sale in September. The worldwide debut is set to follow during the rest of the year.

Volvo FMXVolvo will equip FMX with either an 11-L powerplant capable of anywhere between 330 and 450HP or a 13-L lump with 380-500 horsepower depending on configuration. The larger of the two engine system produces around 1,800 lb-ft of torque.

"We are now aiming to take a leading position in the construction segment. Volvo Trucks and Volvo Construction Equipment have extensive experience of the construction industry. In combination, we can offer our customers the most comprehensive product offering in the industry. We intend to capitalise on this to grow Volvo Trucks' presence in the construction segment. We foresee great potential in this area," announced in a report by president of Volvo Trucks Mr.Staffan Jufors.

Volvo Groups Japanese subsidiary UD Trucks is introducing a new version of the Quon heavy truck, and a new medium-duty truck in 8-tonne weight class, under the Condor series. The updated version of the Quon has an 11-L engine system based on the Volvo platform while the new Condor truck will sport a newly-developed GH7 medium-duty engine.

The truck and the medium-duty engine will be produced by UD Trucks at its plant in Ageo, Japan. The new Quon is planned to be revealed in Japan in April 2010, while the new Condor will be revealed in Japan mid-2010. The later will enter the US market in late-2010.
