The first of the CDMA Androids is finally here in India and you can get it with Reliance. The handset is manufactured by Samsung and comes as an addition to its already widely acclaimed Galaxy range of phone. This one, dubbed the Galaxy i500, shares the same model number as the US counterpart, the Galaxy Captivate. The phone truly deserves the Galaxy badge as it boast features that no other android CDMA phone offers in India.
Here’s the specs and features that make it a phone to watch out for:
This phone ( also referred to as the Galaxy S CDMA), comes with a 4 inch super AMOLED display with fabulous picture quality. It also has a 5MP rear facing camera with power LED flash for a great picture and video recording experience. The body is slim and fits nicely into your hands. It charges through a mini-usb port ( a standard adopted by most manufacturers ), and also has a 3.5mm jack for audio output.
The galaxy i500 is powered by a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM memory which means it is designed for great multimedia experiences. It plays almost all formats of audio as well as video. The internal memory is 2GB and a 16GB micro card is bundled with the phone, that is expandable to 32GB, making the storage capacity a respectable 34GB.
The handset will be shipped with android version 2.1 (Eclair) and will be upgradable to version 2.2 (Froyo). It offers a host of entertainment as well as productivity features including playing streaming media, email, office suite, maps and navigation and more. It will be able to leverage its 3.1Mbps internet speed to great effect making it a perfect phone for office as well as entertainment.
The phone will be available with Reliance CDMA at a price of 25,000.
One feature that the phone is missing is a front facing camera, which means there will be no video calling. This may be a deal breaker considering the price range.
All in all a good phone that had the potential to be great but loses out by a whisker. What’s your take?
