Toyota Canada to recall

A potential seatbelt defect has led Toyota Canada to recall 58,400 Yaris' across Canada (2006 + 2007). The recall is part of a larger global recall involving more than 1.3 million models built in Japan.

In a severe collision, the chemicals released as the seatbelt pretensioner tightens the seatbelt can ignite the sound insulation foam around the pretensioner. The Toyota Yaris only has pretensioners on the front seatbelts.

Toyota Canada will be sending notification letters to owners in early March. If that's too long for you then head down to your local Toyota dealership or contact Toyota Canada's customer support.
