"Marie Antoinette" is such a beautiful masterpiece of a film directed by Sophia Coppola and starring Kirsten Dunst. It is one of my favorite chick flicks because its so simply stunning. The film is incredible and realistic look at what it may have been to be queen of France. Marie Antoinette was just a young girl and she and her husband were thrust into the throne with no experience what so ever. The film acknowledges this and it paints the young beautiful queen as a girl in denial about her adopted country. Her whole world is at Versailles as they never go into the country of Paris (except for the rare costume ball or opera).
The movie is shot with an modern soundtrack and it was filmed entirely on location at the palace of Versailles. This makes the movie more authentic. The costumes alone are to die for and so colorful. The wigs are just as fabulous It was funny to see Molly Shannon is such a serious role and not her usual funny self.
The movie is great on a big flat screen satellite tv to really take in the detail of the movie. There is not much dialogue but, that would ruin the movie with too much complication. It is a movie to be digested, not overrun with dialogue. I love Coppola's style.
