Orkut is all set to get a new look & feel (2 weeks from now), and while many of us believe that game is over for the social network, Google still wants to fight Facebook.
Upcoming changes to Orkut include
- Left navigation, to help you get to the most popular features more easily.
- A new larger profile photo, a popular request. Be sure to upload a higher resolution photo of yourself!
- New full profile view, which lets you and your friends see your info, interests, badges, testimonials and recent photos and videos.
- New fullscreen slideshow for photos (this surely seems to be inspired by Facebook).
The new UI will be made available to all users (i.e. no invitation play).
Are you going back to Orkut, even if they have the best user experience? First things first, Orkut needs to control spams on the site. And then, find out ways to bring back users (so far, there hasn’t been a single push drive by Google to reach out to ‘lost users’).
What’s your take? If you were the product manager of Orkut, what would you do?
Orkut recently turned 7 years old and last month, launched Orkut Box Office.
