TechBeat 15: Browser Wars Redux

Tune into TechBeat, the podcast that bands together Malaysian tech pundits to discuss the latest news in technology and digital media within an Asian context. Hosted by John Lim, this week’s episode features Harinder Singh and Kal Joffres from social media consultancy group Tandemic, and Erna Mahyuni, the editor of Malaysia-based tech site Goreng.my

In the news bucket this week, we discuss:

1) The browser wars, which stepped up a gear following the release of Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 and Mozilla’s Firefox 4. Who’s got the better browser?

2) Facebook Places launches silently in Malaysia, and the response to it so far is… meh.

3) Color, the $41 million dollar app launched by LaLa founder Bill Nguyen, which allows you to share photos with complete strangers in the vicinity.

4) The BlackBerry PlayBook launches with a surprising pricepoint of $499, and supports Android Apps too.

5) The New York Times‘s three-tier paywall — will it be successful this time around, or will people still refuse to pay for news? We also get Erna’s take on news paywall strategies in Malaysia.
