Volkswagen unveiled new 2010 Volkswagen Amarok

Volkswagen has unveiled the pictures and more details of its new 2010 Volkswagen Amarok. The Amarok will be offered as a four-door double cab version from launch with a single cab model to follow in 2011.

Power will be provided by two turbo-diesel engines, the first a bi-turbo 2.0 TDI diesel engine developing 120kW and 400Nm of torque, and the second a smaller diesel producing 90kW and 250Nm of torque. The new pickup from VW will be offered with a choice of rear-wheel drive and switchable or permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive with Torsen differential. The car is 5.25 m long with a ladder frame chassis, has a payload capacity of up to 1.15 tonnes and maximum towing limit will be 2.8 tonnes.

Fuel consumption for the 2.0 litre is listed at just 7.8 l/100km, the smaller diesel achieving a similar 7.6 l/100km fuel economy. CO2 emissions are at 206g/km and 199g/km respectively. This is the car which has achieved an emissions rating below 200g/km.The Payload capacity of the car is 1.15 tonnes with a maximum limit of 2.8 tonnes, and its 1555 mm long and 1620 mm / 2.52 m² wide cargo area is a best in class to carry loads.

The car is designed for off-road terrain which offers an electronic differential lock and Off-Road ABS to shorten braking distances in off-road conditions. In addition, ESP Plus system includes Hill Hold Assist, which prevents the vehicle from rolling back by holding it in place on inclines until the driver presses the accelerator pedal.

Production of the Amarok is about to start at the Volkswagen factory in Buenos Aires, Argentina ahead of its worldwide launch starting in its native South America in early 2010 and in Europe next summer, with first models expected to be in UK Volkswagen Van Centres in September 2010.The cost and other details are confirmed earlier than Amarok’s UK launch.
